Daniel Murphy: Getting a Shot at 2B

According to Adam Rubin, Terry Collins says the competition for the starting 2B job is up for grabs between the incumbent Luis Castillo and the fan favorite Daniel Murphy. Mets fans should be happy to hear this for many reasons.

Replacing Castillo with Murphy in the lineup is a major upgrade. Murphy brings a greater slugging percentage than the slap-happy Castillo. Also we won’t see as many bunts…which is a great thing.

Defensively, it may be pretty close considering the praise Murphy has received and the cobwebs Castillo has shown.

Ruben Tejada? My feeling is that Collins will want him to stay in AAA for the majority of the year. He needs to refine his hitting approach.

Jason Turner might get a look in spring training, which he deserves considering his past season in AAA.
